“Go Yellow” – in support of the Gezza Cares initiative, which supports those suffering from mental health in our local community and in light of recent events here in Kiama and surrounding areas, Kiama Netball is calling on everyone to wear some yellow on Saturday 22nd August.
We will also have a donation box at the canteen to support local mental health initiatives as they work to assist those in need.
Thank you – KNA Committee 💛
Message from SENTRAL Youth Services Coordinator
Dear Community Member,
First of all, I would like to thank you for your time and effort supporting young people through participation in your sporting association, we know this is extremely valuable for their health and wellbeing.
Sadly, as you may be aware, many of our young people are doing it really tough at the moment due to the loss of some of their peers by suicide. It’s also a tough time for them (and us all) generally with COVID placing restrictions on them gathering and creating great uncertainty about their futures.
Headspace have created greater capacity to support young people from Gerringong, Kiama, Jamberoo and surrounding areas who are experiencing extreme distress due to the recent deaths and have created the attached resource for sharing.
Below is a link to our facebook page which has a post from Headspace that you may also wish to share on your club’s page.
I will also send further resources that our staff have found helpful for supporting young people and having conversations about suicide and grief on a separate email.
Thank you for being willing and able to distribute these resources to under 25s and parents at your sporting clubs.
I encourage you to reach out if you are struggling yourself or if you need further advice on supporting young people through this time.
Lifeline 13 11 14 and Beyond Blue 1300 224 636 are available 24/7.
Kindest Regards,
Mel
